Why Linguistic Fuzzy Rule Based Classification Systems perform well in Big Data Applications?

The significance of addressing Big Data applications is beyond all doubt. The current ability of extracting interesting knowledge from large volumes of information provides great advantages to both corporations and academia. Therefore, researchers and practitioners must deal with the problem of scalability so that Machine Learning and Data Mining algorithms can address Big Data properly. With this end, the MapReduce programming framework is by far the most widely used mechanism to implement fault-tolerant distributed applications. This novel framework implies the design of a divide-and-conquer mechanism in which local models are learned separately in one stage (Map tasks) whereas a second stage (Reduce) is devoted to aggregate all sub-models into a single solution. In this paper, we focus on the analysis of the behavior of Linguistic Fuzzy Rule Based Classification Systems when embedded into a MapReduce working procedure. By retrieving different information regarding the rules learned throughout the MapReduce process, we will be able to identify some of the capabilities of this particular paradigm that allowed them to provide a good performance when addressing Big Data problems. In summary, we will show that linguistic fuzzy classifiers are a robust approach in case of scalability requirements. This work have been partially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology under projects TIN2014-57251-P and TIN2015-68454-R

Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Analytic Hierarchical Process With Prioritization, Consistency Checking, and Inconsistency Repairing

Analytic hierarchy process (AHP), as one of the most important methods to tackle multiple criteria decision-making problems, has achieved much success over the past several decades. Given that linguistic expressions are much closer than numerical values or single linguistic terms to a human way of thinking and cognition, this paper investigates the AHP with comparative linguistic expressions. After providing the snapshot of classical AHP and its fuzzy extensions, we propose the framework of hesitant fuzzy linguistic AHP, which shows how to yield a decision for qualitative decision-making problems with complex linguistic expressions. First, the comparative linguistic expressions over criteria or alternatives are transformed into hesitant fuzzy linguistic elements and then the hesitant fuzzy linguistic preference relations (HFLPRs) are constructed. Considering that HFLPRs may be inconsistent, we conduct consistency checking and improving processes after obtaining priorities from the HFLPRs based on a linear programming method. Regarding the consistency-improving process, we develop a new way to establish a perfectly consistent HFLPR. The procedure of the hesitant fuzzy linguistic AHP is given in stepwise. Finally, a numerical example concerning the used-car management in a lemon market is given to illustrate the ef ciency of the proposed hesitant fuzzy linguistic AHP method. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 71771156, in part by the 2019 Sichuan Planning Project of Social Science under Grant SC18A007, in part by the 2019 Soft Science Project of Sichuan Science and Technology Department under Grant 2019JDR0141, and in part by the Project of Innovation at Sichuan University under Grant 2018hhs-43

A Nonlinear Goal Programming Model for University Admission Capacity Planning with Modified Differential Evolution Algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a nonlinear Goal Programming Model (GPM) for solving the problem of admission capacity planning in academic universities. Many factors of university admission capacity planning have been taken into consideration among which are number of admitted students in the past years, total population in the country, number of graduates from secondary schools, desired ratios of specific specialties, faculty-to-students ratio, and the past number of graduates. The proposed model is general and has been tested at King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the work aims to achieve the key objectives of a five-year development plan in addition to a 25-year future plan (AAFAQ) for universities education in the Kingdom. Based on the results of this test, the proposed GPM with a modified differential evolution algorithm has approved an ability to solve general admission capacity planning problem in terms of high quality, rapid convergence speed, efficiency, and robustness

The design of an educational system involves a good understanding of the whole school environment in order to find the correct approach to develop a comprehensive educational system that will meet real educational needs in their operation. This article describes a design model for an educational system based on the teaching methods applied in the Spanish classrooms, which takes into account new advances in technology, while preserving the current teaching methods in the classroom to ensure a quality teaching and learning process. This development has been achieved by combining technological components such as Cloud Computing, Web Services and Distributed User Interfaces. The proposed system is based on a systematic approach where different phases are implemented, containing workflows and stages

An Efficient Route Maintenance Protocol for Dynamic Bluetooth Networks

Bluetooth is a widespread technology for small wireless networks that permits Bluetooth devices to construct a multi-hop network called scatternet. Routing in multi-hop dynamic Bluetooth network, where a number of masters and bridges exist creates technical hitches. It is observed that frequent link disconnections and a new route construction consume extra system resources that degrade the whole network performance. Therefore, in this paper an Efficient Route Maintenance Protocol for Dynamic Bluetooth Networks (ERMP) is proposed that repairs the weak routing paths based on the prediction of weak links and weak devices. The ERMP predicts the weak links through the signal strength and weak devices through low energy levels. During the main route construction, routing masters and bridges keep the information of the Fall Back Devices (FBDs) for route maintenance. On the prediction of a weak link, the ERMP activates an alternate link, on the other hand, for a weak device it activates the FBD. The proposed ERMP is compared with some existing closely related protocols, and the simulation results show that the proposed ERMP successfully recovers the weak paths and improves the system performance

What is the Real Prevalence of HIV-Infection in Saudi Arabia?

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) continues to be transmitted in the developing world. The World Health Organization (WHO) produces an annual report from the United Nations AIDS (UNAIDS) Epidemic Update declaring the new AIDS cases across the world. UNAIDS had to make an estimates from certain countries like Saudi Arabia (SA), due to the fact that there is no adequate reporting of AIDS cases to the WHO. In 2001, the Ministry of Health in SA had created the Saudi AIDS—National Program which became responsible for counting old and new HIV-infection in Saudis and non-Saudis cases and produce an annual report in SA. Data collection shows that obtaining number of AIDS from Saudi—National Program would be more accurate than UNAIDS estimate in SA

A Framework to Develop Web Applications Based on RFID Panels

The pervasiveness of the Web, and the emergence of new technologies such as the RFID, allow users to interact with the physical environment. This fact has caused the conception of new types of applications, for instance, the Web applications based on RFID panels that allow users to retrieve and store resources from and to the Web through RFID panels. The development of these applications is defined by three main concepts: the Tool that performs domain model functionality, the Command that represents an action to be performed by the tool, and finally, the Resource representing the result of the command on the tool. Thus, this work presents a framework that enables developers to model Web applications based on RFID panels in terms of these concepts. The paper also exposes how to extend the framework to build four applications that belong to absolutely different domains
